1. On doors, the molding on the inside of the doorjamb that causes the door to stop in its closed position, preventing it from swinging through. On windows, the molding that covers the inside face of the jamb.

2. A type of molding nailed to the face of a door frame to prevent the door from swinging through. A stop is also used to hold the bottom sash of a double-hung window in place.

3. A valve used to shut off water supply to a fixture.
