cohesive failure

Definition

The internal shearing of a joint sealant that is weaker cohesively than the adhesion bond to the adjacent joint surfaces. The possible causes for failure include insufficient curing, excessive joint movement, improper joint dimensions, or improper selection of the sealant itself.
